Three important reviews for fear extinction

As I begin to do research using fear extinction paradigm, which is apparently very different from what I was doing during my PhD study, so I need to get familiar with this paradigm first. After reading a few papers related to fear extinction, I found that these three reviews are very good for a newcomer.

Bouton (2004) is definitely the must-read. In this review, Bouton listed the different effects that can be considered as fear extinction. With a clear logic flow, this paper is easy to follow. Using Xmind, we can get a very clear picture about fear extinction. After reading this paper, I begin to understand the effect in fear extinction experiments and know which effect they are used as the index of extinction.

Milad & Quirk (2012) is a very good review in other sense. This article made a side-by-side comparison between human studies and animal studies, so it is easy to figure out which brain regions are important for fear extinction and their role. Also, the figures in this review are beautiful and easy to understand.

Quirk & Mueller. (2008) is a very good review in another way: it dissects the processes underlying extinction in temporal order and summary the studies for each phase: encoding, consolidation, and retrieve. Also, with a good figure to illustrate these three phases:
